The first step to confidence: Yehor’s story
Yehor is 9 years old and lives in Korostyshiv with his mom. His dad is defending Ukraine, a significant challenge for the whole family. Before the war, Yehor was an active and curious boy, but everything changed after his dad was mobilized. His stuttering worsened, his self-confidence disappeared, and he became quiet and withdrawn in class.
However, Yehor has always been passionate about programming. He loved attending IT lessons and creating simple programs. This passion helped his mom convince him to visit the Successful Step Community Center, the work is made possible thanks to the support of the European Union @echo_Europe and our partner World Vision, and Save Ukraine.
When Yehor first visited the sessions, he wasn’t enthusiastic. But soon, everything began to change. The psychologists and educators of the Center identified the areas Yehor needed to work on. Step by step, he overcame his difficulties: he learned to solve math problems independently, improved his writing, and started composing short statements. He also found support from his new friends. The other children attending the sessions with Yehor celebrated his successes, which motivated him to keep moving forward.
By December, Yehor was raising his hand in class, coming up to the board, and was no longer ashamed of making mistakes. His circle of friends also grew: he began interacting with classmates and even going out with them.
Yehor’s journey is just beginning. But the most important thing has already happened — he has started to believe in himself, becoming more confident and open.
Thank you to the Successful Step team for helping children regain strength and self-belief 💙💛.
