We helped a family from Kharkiv settle in Poland
We are delighted when our team succeeds not only in evacuating families from frontline areas, but in fully helping them integrate into the new environment they find themselves in as a result of the war. And also restore their psychological state so that they are ready for these life changes. That’s what happened to the Korolkov family from Kharkiv.
For the first three months of the full-scale invasion, a family with three children slept in the hall due to sudden Russian bombings. They might not have time to run to the basement. With each day passing, Oleksandr and Khrystyna were more afraid for their children and understood they had to leave. Then, through volunteers, the couple found the contacts of our Hope and Healing center, and after talking with a Save Ukraine consultant, they went to Kyiv.
“During two months of living in the center, we have psychologically and mentally recovered. The children began to smile and stopped being afraid of loud sounds. And then we were offered to move to a modular house in the Chernivtsi region, and we decided to leave in 5 minutes”, remembers Khrystyna.
For the next seven months, the Save Ukraine team, together with the support of the local church, helped the family rebuild their lives under the Fort Home program. During this period, our incredible coordinator Roman, with the help of a local pastor, arranged the couple’s children to school and kindergarten. And parents — to work. We provided the Korolkovs with constant humanitarian, social, legal, and educational support. And when Oleksandr and Khrystyna felt the strength to move on, our team did not leave them without support.
The couple decided to go to Europe. It took us a few months to help them draw up the documents required and find a job in Poland. And now, it’s been more than two weeks since the Korolkov family successfully moved to Warsaw and continues to rebuild their lives there after the experience of the war:
“Looking back, we understand that without the help of the “Save Ukraine” charity fund, we would not have succeeded in anything. This team is people who have a big and loving heart for human beings. Greetings to you from Poland!”.
