Surviving this escape was challenging
The Save Ukraine team helped another Ukrainian family with a child to escape from the occupation. Since February 24, 2022, 13-year-old Eldar, along with his mother and stepfather, endured the challenges of living under occupation. They faced constant mortar shelling of their home, had to walk 6 kilometers to a Russian school, and experienced attempts by Russians to forcibly take them to Russian territory. They also had to cope with a lack of electricity, communication and the inability to leave their village.
To escape, they embarked on a journey on foot, carrying backpacks and a bicycle. They couldn’t ride the bike, so they loaded all their belongings onto it and pushed it along. Surviving this escape was challenging, as Russian military personnel continuously shelled them along the forest path, and they had to navigate through piles of shell casings and human remains left behind by the Russians.
Fortunately, the family has left behind the horrors of those months and is now safe. They face the process of recovery and rebuilding their lives, as returning is not an option. To date, the Save Ukraine team has successfully brought back 227 children from the occupied and Russian territories.
P.S. The names of the characters in the story have been changed for security reasons. To be continued.
