How 61-year-old Viktor started life anew
War turns life upside down, but sometimes miracles happen when least expected. Sixty-one-year-old Viktor, from the frontline town of Komyshuvakha, could have been left among the ruins of his hometown, which faces daily shelling. Alone, disabled, and without support, money, or hope of rescue, he initially relied on occasional help from neighbors who provided food and clothing.
When Save Ukraine’s evacuation team learned of his situation, they immediately evacuated Viktor to Zaporizhzhya and then to the Irpin Hope and Healing Center. Here, he received all the necessary assistance. Medical support and consultations with a family doctor helped stabilize his health. The social workers quickly restored his documents and arranged for his pension and IDP benefits.
The decision to move to Norway was hard for Viktor. But it opened up the possibility of a stable and safe life. Thanks to Save Ukraine’s collaboration with international partners, Viktor moved to Stavanger, where he was provided housing and medical support.
Today, he is safe, has everything he needs for comfortable living, and feels secure about the future. Thanks to LandsAid and Aktion Deutschland Hilft, we can continue our recovery program for the immobile and elderly to support 50 individuals like Viktor monthly.
