“We're grateful for the chance to sleep in a warm home”
“We’re grateful for your love and for the opportunity to sleep and wake up in a warm home,” Mrs. Larysa and her two granddaughters didn’t expect such good living conditions in our modular house in Chernivtsi.
For a year and a half of full-scale war, Larysa Petrivna, 13-year-old Daria, and 7-year-old Sofia survived in Bahmut, Donetsk region. They hid from Russian shelling in the bathroom, sometimes sleeping there. With each passing day, it became scarier, and the grandmother-caretaker realized she needed to save the children somehow. Houses around them were collapsing one by one, so the risk of their high-rise building being hit was high.
One day, Mrs. Larysa managed to get a call from the girls’ father, who invited them to Chernivtsi city. The woman agreed without hesitation. Later, it turned out that this call saved the lives of her granddaughters. Two months after they left Bahmut, the family’s home was destroyed by a rocket strike.
Later on, the family learned about our “Fort Home” project and got in touch with the Save Ukraine team. From the first days of resettlement, together with the local church, we’ve been helping Mrs. Larysa and the girls address all urgent issues. “They helped the kids go to school; coordinator Roman provided them with everything from pencils to backpacks. We thank him. The pastor helped with socialization—we have new acquaintances, new friends. They take care of us constantly,” shared Larysa Petrivna.
We’re happy to have supported another family whose home was destroyed by Russian aggression!
