How care restores strength: Mrs. Larysa’s story
At 78, Mrs. Larysa had spent her entire life in Kharkiv region. When Russia’s full-scale invasion began, her village fell under occupation and daily shelling. Stress and isolation severely impacted her health: she suffered a stroke that left her with speech and coordination difficulties. Staying home alone was no longer safe.
When our Save Ukraine team learned about her, she was in critical condition. We evacuated her to our Hope and Healing Center, where she received medical care, daily support from a social worker, and assistance with everything from doctor registration to diagnostic tests.
Step by step, Mrs. Larysa began to recover. Today, she lives in Hansen`s town in Kyiv region, where she has secure housing, regular meals, social support — and most importantly, peace and safety.
Save Ukraine is the only organization in Ukraine systematically rescuing elderly and immobile people from war zones. Every story like Mrs. Larysa’s proves that with timely care, dignity and strength can be restored.
👉 We invite partners to join us in scaling this impact. Together, we can ensure that no one is left behind.
Special thanks to our partners Lands Aid and Aktion Deutschland Hilft for supporting the project “Assistance for elderly and immobile people in temporary Hope and Healing shelters.” Your commitment makes these safe spaces possible.
