Even underground, there should be light
When the air sirens go off, children and staff at Save Ukraine’s Hope and Healing center in Irpin move to the bomb shelter — a space that once felt cold and heavy.
Now, thanks to Danish artist Eske Touborg, it has been transformed into a place filled with color, warmth, and hope.
Inspired by children’s drawings created during recent art workshops, Eske painted bright, free-flowing sunflowers across the shelter walls — a symbol of life and resilience in a city that endured occupation.
As Eske says, “It’s not about perfect art — it’s about creating something that lets the mind escape fear.”
For children who still wake up to the sound of air rade sirens, this space is more than a shelter. It’s a reminder that beauty and safety can exist even in the darkest times.
🎥 Watch the story of how color brings calm to children who have lived through war.
Share it to help others see how art restores hope — even in a bomb shelter.
💛 Huge thanks to Eske Touborg and KOLO Nordic for bringing light where it’s needed most.
