"Seeing My Children Smile Gives Me Strength": The story of a family from Kramatorsk
Tetyana from Kramatorsk gently hugs her sons, Davyd and Makar, and smiles: at the Hope and Healing Center in Kyiv, her family has found a fresh start. The Save Ukraine team made sure they had everything they needed for their new life.
Tetyana had lived in Kramatorsk her whole life. She got married there, gave birth to two wonderful sons, and enjoyed a peaceful, steady life. But the war forced them to leave their home.
Fifteen-year-old Davyd has kidney disease and special developmental needs. Nine-year-old Makar has vision problems. Living under constant shelling and air raid sirens became unbearable. The boys not only needed regular medical care but also a sense of safety and peace. There was no more time to hesitate. Their father stayed behind to look after the house and pets, while Tetyana set off on the journey.
They learned about the evacuation through a Telegram group. One call to a Save Ukraine coordinator — and our team quickly organized a route, picking up Tetyana, her sons, her mother Viktoria, and their beloved cat.
The family arrived at the Hope and Healing Center in Kyiv late in the evening. They were already expected. A warm room, food supplies, hygiene essentials, and kind people greeted them with care from the very first moment.
Now the family is safe. The boys are undergoing medical check-ups and working with a psychologist, catching up on school, making new friends — and most importantly, smiling again. Tetyana breathes a sigh of relief when she sees her happy children.
“Here, I see my children smiling. That gives me strength,” says Tetyana.
Today, this family is safe. In a new place. With new hope.
Our team works every day to ensure that families like this one feel supported and can begin rebuilding their lives. Their smiles are our greatest reward.
