We provided housing for a family from Kherson
We provided housing for a family from Kherson!
Miraculously, our rescuers evacuated the large Butenko family shortly before the Russian attack on the Kakhovka hydroelectric power station. However, even without this catastrophic event, the family had suffered enough horrors of war.
For 10 months, Anna and her three children survived the occupation. Food and medicine shortages, lack of communication with the world, inability to work and study. It’s hard to imagine such conditions for a mother who was carrying her not even a year old son Mykola.
But the worst test was the constant threat to the children’s lives. For many months, they did not leave the cold, damp basement because of the incessant russian shelling. Here, 11-year-old Ilona and her brothers, nervous and exhausted by stress, began to fall ill. At the same time, it was impossible to get basic antipyretic drugs.
And so, when Ukrainian soldiers finally liberated Kherson, the children of the Butenko family were able to go out into the yard. It was then that they came under the treacherous fire of the russians. The arrival happened very close by. It was fortunate that no one was injured. After the shocking event, Anna immediately started looking for volunteers to get the family out of danger. They turned out to be Save Ukraine rescuers.
We evacuated the Butenko family to our Kyiv center “Hope and Recovery”. Here, the children’s psychological state slowly improved, and Anna finally stopped being afraid for her sons and daughter. A great joy for the family was the news from our team about a new home that was already waiting for its owners in Ivano-Frankivsk region!
Their modular house has all the necessary conditions for a comfortable life: from water supply and air conditioning to important little things like dishes and towels. Our team also provides support to the family in the form of humanitarian kits, employment assistance and socialization of children.
Thus, our Fort Home project has restored normal life to another Ukrainian family. We hope that in their new home they will regain the peace and faith in tomorrow that russia has taken away from them.
