“The Future of Ukraine”: 11-Year-Old Volunteer from Denmark Received a Special Award
When you’re 11, you usually dream of superpowers, agility, or flying to space. But Jens, a schoolboy from Denmark, dreams of peace. Even from thousands of kilometers away, he thinks about children in Ukraine. And more than that — he takes action.
Jens is a true friend of our foundation. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, he’s been volunteering and supporting Ukrainian children who found refuge in Denmark. But recently, he did something truly remarkable: he came up with a unique way to help children who are growing up in Ukraine — under the constant sound of sirens and explosions.
He handcrafted blue-and-yellow Easter-themed beaded chicks and sold them in his hometown. Jens raised an incredible €8,000, which he decided to spend on school backpacks for children staying at our centers in Irpin and Hatne.
Thanks to his heartfelt initiative, children with disabilities and kids from vulnerable families at Save Ukraine centers received brand-new backpacks filled with useful school supplies and cheerful surprises. We’re especially grateful to our partners at @kolo_nordic, who supported us with logistics and coordination.
But Jens didn’t stop there. He’s already planning to send another shipment of backpacks — continuing to make handmade crafts and raise funds to help even more children.
And now we’re proud to share some wonderful news: for his outstanding support of children affected by the war, Jens — this 11-year-old volunteer — was awarded the “Future of Ukraine” honor by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his recent visit to Denmark. Jens is the first foreign recipient of this award.
The President thanked him on behalf of all Ukrainians — especially the children. And so do we. A special thank-you to his mother, Majbrit Fogh, for raising such a kind and compassionate son. Jens, we celebrate you and your well-deserved recognition
