The path to a new life: the Klimov family’s story
The Klimov family lived peacefully in the town of Novohrodivka in the Donetsk region. The full-scale invasion completely changed their lives. By the summer of 2022, their home was under constant shelling, with no electricity or water. The family, including their two children, often had to hide in the basement. The nights were the worst, as the number of explosions increased significantly.
“The children struggled emotionally. Our daughter cried constantly, and our son kept asking when this nightmare would end,” recalls their mother, Oksana.
Living in constant fear for their children’s lives became unbearable, so the family evacuated in August. They spent several months in Kamianske before moving to Poltava. However, a rocket struck their yard in a few weeks, forcing the Klimovs to relocate again. They decided to return to their home in Novohrodivka but were soon caught up in the forced evacuation. Finally, with the help of Save Ukraine volunteers, the family found refuge at our Hope and Healing Сenter, where they received initial assistance and medical examinations at Okhmatdyt Hospital. Later, the Klimovs were offered accommodation in a separate modular house through the Fort Home program in Smila, Cherkasy region.
“When we arrived in Smila, people warmly welcomed us,” says Oksana. The local church and volunteers provided support and assistance. After four months, the family could purchase their house in a village near Smila.
However, the most challenging aspect, according to Oksana, is being separated from her husband, who is defending their homeland. He was injured but continues to serve. “It’s difficult both mentally and physically,” Oksana admits. Despite all the hardships, the Klimov family remains hopeful. Their greatest dream is for the war to end as soon as possible and for their husband and father to return home.
The Klimov family’s story is another powerful example of how faith in the future, timely support, and solidarity can help overcome difficulties and quickly return families to regular life.
