After life under occupation, Oleh almost didn't talk
When Oleh arrived at our shelter, he barely said a word.
⠀
More than three years of living in the occupation became a very difficult test: inspections, shelling, the ban on speaking one’s native language. All this broke the teenager, forced him to withdraw into himself. There was no one to tell about his pain and fears, and the lack of care and support led to loneliness and communication problems.
⠀
But in our dormitory for orphans, Oleg found not only a roof over his head, but a space where he was listened to and heard. His first conversation with a psychologist was not words. It was a cry of the soul. And we were there to share this pain with him.
⠀
Thanks to the support of our professional team of psychologists, light appeared in his eyes after just a few sessions. After three years of trials and silence, Oleg started not just talking — he started dreaming about the future again.
⠀
Thanks to our partners Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Malteser International for supporting our orphanage and giving children a chance for a new life.
