We will endure together: the story of the Perebyinis family
The Perebyinis family from Kherson endured occupation, constant shelling, and the loss of hope for tomorrow. They stayed in their home until the very last moment but eventually realized that to survive, they needed to leave.
Leonid Hryhorovych, a war veteran, was deeply reluctant to leave his hometown and venture into the unknown. “We will endure everything together; we won’t abandon our home,” he kept telling his wife, Valentyna. However, his health was deteriorating and required urgent medical attention.
The ongoing stress also took a toll on Valentyna Mykolaivna. Once strong in spirit, she began losing hope—and her health. The couple finally decided to evacuate after a Russian missile damaged their home. They turned to Save Ukraine for help.
Our volunteers quickly organized their evacuation and transported them to the Irpin Center for Elderly and Immobile Individuals. Once there, our team immediately took action:
👉 Arranged medical checkups and began treatment for both spouses.
👉 Assisted in recovering lost documents.
👉 Provided much-needed psychological support.
But the good news did not end there for this family. The couple received a call from an acquaintance in Kherson. It was the daughter of their neighbor, whom they once helped raise. The young woman had been searching for the Perebyinis family and decided to take them under her care. With the support of Save Ukraine, the family has now relocated to Kyiv, where they live in peace and safety.
Recently, Leonid Hryhorovych celebrated his birthday. The Center team participated in the celebration, reminding the couple that they were not alone.
💛 Save Ukraine is about people helping people. It is about supporting every step of the way and the opportunity to feel safe again.
