Overcoming the odds: the story of Mr. Stanislav
Stanislav Husakov is an extraordinary man. At 58, despite living with cerebral palsy, he not only survived the hardships of loneliness but found the strength to begin a new chapter in his life.
Born in Kostiantynivka, the Donetsk region, his life was always difficult due to his condition. His diagnosis offered little hope for a full life, and his parents were unable to provide proper care. So, Stanislav learned to overcome his limitations, accepting help from neighbors when he needed it.
The war took away his last support — his neighbors fled to safer areas, leaving Stanislav alone. Constant shelling, power outages, and a complete lack of hope for survival became his reality until Save Ukraine volunteers helped evacuate him.
Stanislav received medical, social, and psychological support at the Hope and Healing Center in Irpin. Our specialists helped him with paperwork, escorted him to government institutions, and organized humanitarian aid. He often says, “I feel like I’m at a spa here”.
The story of Mr. Stanislav inspires even in the toughest of times. Despite everything he’s been through, he believes in victory and helps us all believe that no obstacle is insurmountable.
