Vladyslav's Story of Survival
Seven bomb hits took place near the home of 11-year-old Vladyslav when the Russians bombed the Kharkiv region at the beginning of the full-scale war. On February 24, the boy was with his father and older brother in their native village. These horrifying events quickly forced Vlad to grow up.
Today, Vladyslav’s father works almost without weekends to feed his two sons. And his 17-year-old brother also works part-time, wanting to help their father. Therefore, Vlad often cooks for himself, manages all household chores and tries to keep up with his studies. His only solace when he can play at home with his cats. The pets greatly help the boy forget about the harsh reality.
Vlad joined our community center in September last year when he enrolled in a robotics club. However, soon Vlad began regularly attending our educational sessions and activities, even arriving at the center a few hours earlier. At that time, the boy was very withdrawn. He had rarely spoken, and when he did, it was with hesitation. Vlad didn’t try to make friends with other children and showed minor interest in learning. So, our experts suggested psychological support for the boy and his family, and it proved to be worthwhile.
When the psychologist started communicating with Vlad, he realized that it was challenging for a boy to connect with himself, understand his own feelings, and comprehend others’ feelings toward him. That’s how productive work began that not only captivated the boy but also transformed his life. Today, Vlad openly discusses his feelings and thoughts, becoming curious and active in his studies. He has also made friends whom he often invites home. Vladislav developed a passion for robotics, showcasing true talent. Despite these remarkable changes and successes, the boy continues to fulfill the psychologist’s homework, writing down their conversations and reviewing his notes midweek.
It’s also important that Vlad’s father adjusts his work schedule and now spends more time at home with his sons.
A true miracle is seeing Vladislav’s smile after months of seriousness and sadness on his face. We will make every effort to preserve this boy’s smile and, along with it, restore his childhood.
