"Not a single living place was left in our city"
On the eve of the full-scale invasion of the Russians, 73-year-old Valentina Vasylivna and her husband got into a car accident. The woman suffered four fractures in the leg and was undergoing extremely complex treatment when the war came to her hometown of Orihiv.
“There were Shaheds and rockets, phosphorous and cluster bombs flying here. And even a children’s sports school was destroyed by an air bomb. Not a single living place was left in our city because of the Russian shelling,” Valentina Vasylivna recalls with pain.
Unfortunately, the “Russian world” hadn’t missed the sick woman’s house. On the street where the couple lived, more than 20 enemy rockets were fired. One of the shells exploded right next to the house of the Filonets family, leaving behind a gutted roof, broken windows, and fear for life. Then Ms. Valentina’s health worsened, and the elderly couple eventually left the house.
Thanks to a kind neighbor, they reached Zaporizhzhia, where another shocking news had been awaiting Valentina Vasylivna. During the analysis on the eve of hip replacement surgery, the woman was diagnosed with oncology. Right in that time Mrs. Valentina ended up in Lviv Oblast, in our partner hub “Good Samaritan”, which takes care of elderly people with reduced mobility.
Here, in good conditions and with the care of volunteers, Valentina Vasylivna is waiting for her significant trip to Denmark, where her granddaughter invited her. There, the woman will be able to receive highly qualified treatment.
We believe that after all the trials of fate, which Ms. Valentina went through, she will be able to overcome the disease and return to a peaceful life in her old age!
