International Day to Protect Education from Attack
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 365 educational institutions have been destroyed, and 3,798 have been damaged. Schools that once echoed with children’s laughter now lie in ruins or stand empty due to destruction and the absence of students.
According to UNICEF, over 4.3 million Ukrainian children have to leave their homes, friends, and the opportunity to study in their native schools, relocating to other regions or even other countries. Thousands of Ukrainian children remain in occupied territories, now under the constant influence of Russian propaganda that seeks to erase their identity. Many internally displaced children continue their education online due to challenges enrolling in schools at their new locations.
Yet, we do not give up. The Save Ukraine team is doing everything possible to help Ukrainian children continue their education despite these challenges. With the support of World Vision and the European Union, we have launched the “Safe Access to Fair and Inclusive Education in Ukraine” program based in our Community Centers. This program is available to students from grades 1 to 11. They can complete it online and offline. To join remotely, students must fill out an application form via the provided link and complete a test to determine which topics they need to catch up on to address their educational losses.
