Incredible transformations of Olena and Denis in our community center
Olena and Denys from Lysychansk lost their home due to a Russian missile, and within four months, they also lost their father. He fought cancer and, having previously worked in emergency services, couldn’t handle the challenging move and constant stress.
The mother of 7-year-old Olena and 13-year-old Denis devoted all her time to caring for her husband. The family made ends meet by selling vegetables from their garden and receiving state assistance. The financial situation remains challenging as Tetyana, in addition to the two children, also cares for her brother with special needs.
With such a challenging story, Olenka and Denys found their way to our Community Center in Dnipro, where the Save Ukraine Team helped them find joy and new opportunities in life. After their father’s passing, the children needed psychological support, interaction with peers, and positive emotions.
Olenka initially came to us as a reserved child, often appearing frightened. Her improvised hideouts were her safe spaces. Over time, our teachers built a trusting relationship with her, and she began embracing all things good and interesting. She found new friends, became more active, and happier.
Denys also discovered the joy of friendship in our center, craving attention and lively interaction with peers. That’s why we initiated separate meetings for teenagers, helping identify Denys’s needs and facilitating his adaptation to the new city. Additionally, our experts plan to join a career guidance program for teenagers, further assisting them in stepping into their future after the hardships they’ve endured.
We appreciate everyone supporting our crucial mission. Together, we’re making positive changes in the lives of these children and their families!
