First successful steps: the story of Taras
“We’ve been everywhere — Croatia, Germany, Okhmatdyt. And everywhere we heard: ‘Wait, it will be fine’… But Taras couldn’t walk, couldn’t talk, and had no contact with other children. He would only silently cling to me,” says Natalia, the mother of little Taras, with whom specialists from our center in Irpin began working.
📍 We met this family by chance at a street event in Irpin. Mrs. Natalia saw a flyer about the early intervention service and understood that she had to contact us for help. This is how the family found their way to the Save Ukraine center, where, thanks to the coordinated work of the early intervention specialists in Irpin, the family received comprehensive support: developmental activities, massages, psychological assistance, recommendations, and constant feedback.
In just six months, Taras:
✅ Took his first independent steps
✅ Started smiling, playing with toys, and interacting with other children
✅ Stopped being afraid of unfamiliar people
✅ Began to willingly interact with his father, whom he had previously feared
Most importantly, the parents found hope. Because our psychologists not only help the child master exercises but also support the family in every way. And now, little Taras enjoys attending group sessions.
The early intervention program is about real change. Because when support comes in time, even the saddest silence turns into first words and children’s laughter.
We thank the Government of the Netherlands (represented by the Ambassador of the Netherlands) for their support and for the collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands.
