Care That Saves Lives: How Save Ukraine Supports Elderly and Mobility-Impaired People During the War
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Save Ukraine has evacuated 9,293 elderly and mobility-impaired people from active combat zones and temporarily occupied territories.
Behind every number lies the story of a real person — someone who escaped danger, received vital support, and was given the chance to live with dignity and safety. Many of them struggle to move on their own. Some have lost loved ones, their homes, or the ability to provide even for their most basic needs. The Save Ukraine team accompanies these people at every stage — from evacuation to resettlement and adaptation.
Support After Evacuation: More Than Just a Roof Over Their Heads
At our Hope and Healing Centers, people receive temporary housing, daily care, essential services, psychological support, help with restoring documents, and guidance in finding permanent housing.
📌 Between October 2024 and October 2025:
Over 490 people received support at our centers
93 beneficiaries renewed or restored their documents
1,400 individual and 189 group therapy sessions were conducted by our psychologists
A New Home in a New Community
We help people find safe housing and adapt to new conditions. Already, 20% of beneficiaries have moved from our centers into new communities in Ukraine. Another 5% have found refuge abroad, and 5% are now living with families.
Not Just Help — But Dignity and Care
After long journeys, often in difficult physical and emotional conditions, elderly people need more than medical or material assistance. Above all, they need human presence, care, and warmth. That is what we strive to provide.
“We left because we could no longer walk. But someone was waiting for us,” says one of our center’s residents.
The project “Support for Elderly and Mobility-Impaired People in Hope and Healing Emergency Shelters” is implemented by Save Ukraine with the support of @landsaidev and @aktion_deutschland_hilft.
Thanks to this partnership, we can continue creating safe and dignified conditions for the most vulnerable. We are grateful for the trust, support, and collaboration that help restore people’s strength, dignity, and peace of mind.
