Building Resilience Through Education: The Story of Anastasiia from Donetsk Region
At Save Ukraine, we know that evacuation is only the first step. Once a child is safe, the real work begins: overcoming trauma, rebuilding trust, and closing critical educational gaps.
Displacement and attacks have disrupted the schooling of thousands of Ukrainian children. Without intervention, these losses risk becoming permanent barriers to their future. That is why Save Ukraine invests in specialized educational recovery programs, supported by professional teachers who combine psychosocial support with tailored learning.
One of them is Anastasiia Akimova from Donetsk region. After her own family endured severe losses, Anastasiia chose to transform her experience into service. In just three months with Save Ukraine, she has designed individual learning paths for dozens of children — many rescued directly from occupation or captivity — helping them regain motivation, self-confidence, and measurable progress in mathematics.
Her credo is simple: Never give up. Keep moving forward, even when it’s hard. This is also the ethos guiding Save Ukraine’s broader mission: restoring not just safety, but opportunity and hope for every child.
On World Teachers’ Day, we honor educators like Anastasiia, who make recovery tangible. Together with our partners, we are proving that every child’s right to learn and thrive can be restored — step by step.
