Another Ukrainian family reunited
Another family reunited in Ukraine, thanks to the persistent efforts of the Save Ukraine team, initiated by Bring Kids Back UA, which helps reunite families separated by war.
The war found Iryna and Mykola in their native village in southern Ukraine, which quickly fell under occupation. In the early days, Mykola went to defend his homeland while Iryna stayed home with their six-month-old son, Zakhar. She attempted to flee, but the journey became more perilous each day, so she decided not to take the risk.
A few months later, Mykola was captured and taken as a prisoner of war by Russia. He endured numerous tortures: he was beaten, electrocuted, and forced to sing the Russian anthem. However, he was not allowed to contact his family even once. All Iryna could only hope for the best and tell little Zakhar about his brave father, who was heroically defending Ukraine.
When Mykola was finally released, Iryna and Zakhar attempted to leave the temporarily occupied territory (TOT). Still, the Russians categorically refused to let them go, even subjecting Iryna to filtration procedures. Fortunately, she learned about Save Ukraine and contacted us for help.
Today, the family is together again. All three are learning how to be a family once more, and little Zakhar is gradually getting used to his father. Ahead lies a long journey of recovery for the family.
We extend our gratitude to WeAreAllUkrainians, Ron Wahid, the Humanity Foundation, and our constant partner, the United Center for Coordination of the Search and Release of Prisoners of War and Illegally Detained Persons Resulting from Aggression Against Ukraine, for their support in saving these children.
P.S. All confidential information about the heroes has been changed for security reasons.
