Protecting children's rights: here’s what's new
Friends, we’d like to share the latest news digest on what’s happening in the child protection domain. Let our begin with important updates from early November.
Our Foundation’s delegation visited Canada, where we continued advocating for the rights of Ukrainian children. We met with international partners and examined the case of a Canadian charity that provides psychological, legal, and social assistance to children who have endured severe forms of violence.
🔷 International Community Adopts the “Montreal Commitment”. We participated in the Ministerial Conference on the Humanitarian Dimension of Ukraine’s Peace Formula, a highly significant event. This conference, which brought together representatives from over 70 countries, saw the adoption of the “Montreal Commitment”, a joint document focused on the repatriation of all Ukrainian children and captives. The international coalition strongly supports Ukraine and promises to increase pressure on Russia to protect civilians.

🔷 UN Peace Institute Ambassador David Fernandez Puyana Visits Kyiv. During his visit, Ambassador Puyana met with children and families affected by Russian aggression who are now being supported at our “Hope and Recovery” center. He spoke with survivors, learned about their experiences, and found out how our art therapies help people to overcome their fears.

🔷 Perpetrator of Child Sexual Violence Sentenced to Life. Our team manages to hold accountable a child molester. The perpetrator was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to pay compensation of 700,000 UAH. We did this together with Kherson Oblast’s law enforcement authorities. We are now helping the child reintegrate into normal social life.

🔷 Russia Admits Deportation of 380 Children from Mariupol. Russia’s Commissioner for Children’s Rights publicly acknowledged the deportation of 380 Ukrainian children from Mariupol to Russia, where they are being forcibly integrated into Russian educational institutions. This is a violation of international law, and we will not rest until all our children return home.

🔷 Russian Authorities Establish “Russian Language Centers” in Occupied Territories. Occupying forces continue to impose Russian culture on Ukrainian territories by creating “promotion centers” in all school libraries. We must take all necessary measures to protect our children from forced assimilation.

🔷 Almost 160 “Green Rooms” for Victims of Violence Now Open in Ukraine. These are safe spaces for children who require assistance. Criminal juvenile justice institutions professionals collaborate effectively and establish positive interactions with the children.

🔷 Russian Officer Abducts 15 Ukrainian Children. A Russian commander who abducted 15 children from a special school in the Mykolaiv region and took them to Russia has been charged in absentia. We will not rest until every abducted child is brought home.
