Nearly 5 arrivals with an interval of 10 seconds each were counted by our volunteer Oleksandr, who recently was at the epicenter of a russian attack on the Ostrov district in Kherson. The russians purposely shelled only one sector. Coincidentally or not, it was the location of a Kherson kindergarten and a humanitarian center where local volunteers had provided aid.
The last enemy shell exploded just 15 meters away from Sasha. At that moment, the volunteer jumped into the Save Ukraine vehicle to drive it as far away from the shelling as possible. “The car saved us all, it took the brunt of the shock wave,” Oleksandr admitted.
However, two of his colleagues, Petro and Vitaliy, who were nearby, still sustained serious shrapnel wounds. Sasha was by their side when they were bandaged in the bomb shelter and taken away in an ambulance. They were successfully operated on in the hospital and are now slowly recovering. Recently, Sasha handed over crutches and a cane to his comrades to help them gradually regain their mobility.
This is not the first time Oleksandr has come under russian fire, and the second time, according to Sasha, he got away with a “slight scare”. In this case, it was a concussion with all its consequences.
Even though the car helped Sasha escape, he does not doubt that he was miraculously saved by the Almighty twice.
Soon we will share with you Oleksandr’s interview at the scene. In the meantime, we are extremely grateful to Sasha and all the volunteers who are heroically doing their jobs in extremely dangerous conditions. Take care of yourself and be careful!
