4 days in a Russian school: memories of Milana
Picture 10-year-old Milana entering a school and spotting heavily armed soldiers keeping a close eye on the kids. In her classroom, there was a Russian flag, Putin’s portrait, and even her own Russian flag on the desk, where she was supposed to wrap it around herself on the first day.
Recalling Milana’s days in a Russian-occupied school with her brother Bogdan sends shivers down your spine.
On another occasion, a representative of the occupying force threatened to deport their children as foreigners if the parents didn’t send them to the Russian school. The couple reluctantly agreed. Fortunately, Milana and Bogdan endured only four days in that school until their mother learned about the Save Ukraine organization from friends. We assisted the Korolevsky family in moving to Ukrainian-controlled territory.
At the Ukrainian border, the entire family wept, realizing that everything lay ahead. Overwhelmed with joy, Milana even asked a Ukrainian border guard for a hug.
