22 Ukrainian children and teenagers have been rescued from temporarily occupied territory
22 Ukrainian children and teenagers have been rescued from temporarily occupied territory by the Save Ukraine team.
We are deeply grateful to Wolodymyr Klitschko, Tatjana Kiel from WeAreAllUkrainians, Humanity Foundation, Helping to Leave, and the Joint Center for the Coordination of Search and Release for making this mission possible.
These children endured fear, pressure, and humiliation — but today they are finally safe. They can once again be children: breathe freely, and feel love and care around them.
Among those rescued:
🔹 Damir, 10, was forced to attend a Russian school under the threat of being sent to occupied Crimea for a fake “examination” and psychiatric diagnosis. His mother was wounded after their house came under shelling and later fined for posting pro-Ukrainian photos on social media.
🔹 Nazar, 16, and his younger brother Zakhar were treated as outcasts in their village because their parents — both teachers — refused to work in a Russian school or accept Russian passports. The family held out as long as they could until local “child welfare services,” accompanied by police, came to their home demanding explanations about why the boys weren’t attending school. Later, officials filed a protocol against their father and summoned him to a “commission” to review his supposed “offense.”
🔹 Olivia, 14, was forced to study in a Russian school where classmates bullied her, calling her derogatory names like “khokhlushka.” When her baby brother Matviy was born, their mother was pressured into obtaining Russian documents for the whole family. But once the boy grew older, the family dared to leave for a safer place.
Today, all the rescued children are safe. At our Hope and Healing Centers, they receive psychological support, help with documents, shelter, and care — everything they need to feel like children again.
Thanks to Save Ukraine, more than 900 children have already been rescued from Russia and the occupied territories. But thousands more are still waiting for their chance at freedom.
