World Day for Safety and Health at Work
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work, celebrated annually on April 28th, was established by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to promote safe and healthy working environments and to raise awareness about the importance of preventing workplace accidents and diseases. This day is part of a global campaign to improve occupational health and safety (OHS) by fostering a culture of prevention within workplaces around the world.
Each year, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work focuses on a specific theme related to workplace safety, such as the prevention of work-related accidents, addressing mental health issues, or responding to new challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic. The day is marked by events, workshops, and policy discussions aimed at educating employers, workers, and governments about the need for effective safety measures, regulations, and practices that protect employees.
The day serves as a reminder that every worker has the right to a safe and healthy working environment. It encourages employers and organizations to take responsibility for implementing and maintaining workplace safety measures that reduce risks and protect the well-being of employees.
Through collective action, World Day for Safety and Health at Work strives to prevent occupational hazards and create safer, healthier, and more productive work environments worldwide.
